What a lovely weekend! The weather was perfect. Saturday we got up and I got some things done that I have been putting off for a while. Nothing major but it still felt nice to get it done. This included getting the bikes out of the storage unit and tested. Ted did a great job calibrating the gears and brakes so my bike is working much better than when it was new. Itching to take the bikes for a spin, we biked down to Lincoln Square and went to Mayfest. Well really “went to” is an exaggeration. It was more like looked at. Man, there were a lot of people. We quickly decided to duck into the Daily Bar and Grill (neither of us had never been) for a quick drink. It was really nice but smelled too good for me to want to stay too long. I wasn’t even hungry and the smell of French fries was overpowering my will. So we walked south on Lincoln to scout out the new Julius Meinl Café where our neighbor Ken would be playing piano in the evening.
We got as far as the baseball fields before Leah met up with us and we went to Lattitude for another quick drink. She and Amy went out for a congratulatory, oh-my-pilcrow-is-done decompression dinner. And Ted and I went to Essence of India. I have only been to a couple of Indian places before and I don’t know if the difference was due to the region of India the cuisine was from, but I wasn’t very impressed. Ted and I headed back out on Lincoln to head to Julius to hear Ken play. It was really lovely inside. It is hard for me to appreciate coffee shop/ sandwich shops anymore, but it was a really nice relaxing atmosphere and the hot cocoa was really good. We chatted for a bit and listened to Ken play. Then the yawning became too frequent and we decided we had better head home while we had energy left to bike.
Sunday was another day of beautiful weather. I relaxed on the porch in the morning while eating my breakfast. Ran a couple of errands while Ted was at Aikido and relaxed the afternoon away watching movies on the couch. There are probably some things I could have been doing, but I decided to take a break and relax instead.
It was clear by the outfits this morning at work that I was not the only that has finally decided that spring is here to stay. It is so nice to see the bright colors and khakis instead of the grays and blacks of the last few months. I am really excited about my new job. I think I am finally over the worst of the feeling sad about the group I left. I am learning all kinds of things and am facing the challenge head on everyday. There is still quite a steep hill in front of me made of skills and programs and new people that will be integral to my new job, but I am focusing on the here and now and learning a bit of patience in the process.
I hope we can hang out before I leave on vacation, but am glad we at least
got to have one drink on Saturday.
