The past few weeks have brought a lot of changes into my life. Some are going to be good (work) and some not so good (moving). But change is exactly what I have been needing. This year I decided to put myself out there and to take more risks in my job and relationships. As far as my job goes, it has paid off. No longer am I sitting idly by watching projects lag and the team get demoralized. I am stepping up. I have gotten to informally wear a project manager hat in the past but wasn't really comfortable with it. I just wasn't ready for it. But I am ready for it now and have been suceeding in ways that I never imagined. Today brought a major project into frution. It is not finished yet but the first site of several was completed. This success should bouy my confidence and energy for weeks to come. There were times several months ago that I was so frustrated that nothing was moving on this project. But now I see how my determination made it happen. I am really glad I was given the oppotunity to try it out. I found that some things are coming very naturally. It is now time to start the study of the science that is project management.
The move may have come at just the right time. Faced with the near possiblity of my leaving the company, my boss and others in my group have rallied to get HR to make things happen. This means that I also have a lot more leverage than usual to set the terms and duties that I would like in my next role. And I couldn't be happier with the way things are going. Working from home for my current company means that I would be able to take classes at the University. I have been wanting to study Education for a while now. I think that in a few months after all the boxes are unpacked, I will look around and say, "What took me so long to do this?"
I am excited for you, Dondi! And I meant to mention to you earlier that my
aunt, uncle and cousin all live in Minneapolis, if you guys need any tips
or connections there. :)
